Meta continues its roll out of non-fungible token (NFTs) features on it's various platforms. Recently, granting the ability to cross-post NFTs across Facebook and Instagram for select users based in the United States.
With these new features, Meta wants to make it easier for users to share their NFTs by only requiring a one-time digital wallet connection on either Facebook or Instagram.
Once the wallet has been created, the user’s wallet can be automatically recognized if cross-posting is enabled under account settings on either application.
This move by Meta is a further step to increasing mainstream adoption and awareness around NFTs. While not many people have NFTs or understand the technology behind it, most people have a Facebook or Instagram account.
NFTs, in effect, signify ownership and have gained traction on Twitter as a social media feature, with users able to purchase Twitter Blue to “verify” their NFT ownership and turn their profiles into hexagon-shaped badges.
Instagram and Meta’s push into NFTs is another step "Web2" companies are taking to move towards the "Web3" space.
At present, Meta supports Ethereum, Polygon and Flow NFTs on Facebook and Instagram. The race to becoming the social media platform of choice for NFT holders is rampantly increasing.
